In schnellen Schritten geht es auf die DHd2027 in Marburg zu. Daher möchten wir uns an dieser Stelle noch einmal
The association „Digital Humanities in the German-speaking Area e.V.“ (http://www.digitalhumanities.de) is offering three travel grants of €500 each for participating in conferences other than the DHd Annual Conference.
In addition to three grants of €500 each for DH-related conferences, the DHd-Verband is also offering five grants of €1,500 each in this round for DH2026 in Daejeon (South Korea).
This scholarship program was established because the association repeatedly receives requests for travel scholarships for conferences, the processing of which is to be simplified by this program. If you are interested, please apply directly here. Calls for applications are issued in November/December and April.
Applications are possible for early career scholars even without a contribution to the conference. The „regular“ travel grants are awarded to a maximum of €500 each. Eligible costs include 2nd class train travel, public transport trips, DHd membership fees, conference fees, accommodation up to max. €89/night, and costs for poster printing. Payment is made after the conference upon submission of receipts.
Eligible applicants are students of a humanities or cultural studies field, especially from the area of Digital Humanities, i.e., Bachelor and Master students as well as graduates up to two years after their Master’s degree, or doctoral candidates. These Early-Career Travel Grants are aimed at supporting students and graduates with interests and research projects in the field of Digital Humanities and their integration into the DHd community.
As not only early career scholars sometimes lack the necessary funding to attend a conference, we are also opening our grant programme to those who no longer fall into the above-described early-career group. In this case, however, the following application requirements apply: applicants who are not early career researchers must, unlike early career scholars, provide mandatory proof of a contribution to the conference (paper, working group event, or poster). Furthermore, they should include a statement explaining that—and why—they do not have sufficient alternative travel funding available, and confirm whether—and which—other funding options have already been exhausted or explored.
The grantees commit to reporting on their experiences during the conference or within four weeks after its end. Suitable formats include blog posts, day- or section-wise management of the conference Mastodon accounts, photo or other multimedia documentations, and brief conference reports via other media channels. Further creative presentation and publication forms are explicitly welcomed and can be considered after consultation with the scholarship coordinator. The submission of the conference accompanying contributions must be done no later than four weeks after the conference, and the submission of accounting and receipts no later than eight weeks after the conference.
The DHd Association supports sustainability. We encourage making sustainable decisions in travel planning. It is expected that grantees – if the timing of the grant award allows – take advantage of Early-Bird conference rates. Membership in the DHd Association is not required for the application and disbursement of the grant. However, we would like to point out that members of the DHd Association benefit from a significant reduction in participation fees at conferences of the Digital Humanities professional associations DHd, EADH, and ADHO.
The selection of the grantees will be made collectively by representatives of the DHd Board based on the applications. Preference is given to applicants who have not yet received a grant for one of the previous DHd conferences. Former grantees are ranked according to the number of grants already received and can only be considered if there are enough grants available. In case of equal suitability according to the criteria mentioned above, a draw will decide. Legal recourse is excluded.
Applications can be submitted until 30.04.2026. Please fill out the application form in German or English and send a short tabular CV. If you have your own conference contribution, please also include the submission text and the reviews of the accepted contribution with your application. Please also indicate if you have already received a DHd travel grant. You may be considered again, but preference is given to applicants who have not yet received a DHd grant.
Please explicitly indicate in your application (both in the email and in the forms) if you are applying for DH2026. Also state whether you belong to the early-career group or not.
In contrast to previous years, we ask you to complete an additional form (see below). The Excel sheet requests some information that is partly redundant compared to the usual document, but it formats this information in a way that allows us to gain a quicker overview during data evaluation. Therefore, please complete both documents. Thank you for your cooperation.
Please send your applications by email to stipendien@digitalhumanities.de. If you have any questions regarding the early-career travel grants, please also contact stipendien@digitalhumanities.de.
The personal data of the applicants will be processed based on the privacy policy for the purpose of carrying out the selection process under the mentioned conditions. If you have any questions about data protection in connection with the grants, please also contact stipendien@digitalhumanities.de.
The scholarship holders are expected to be notified in May.
