DHd2025 Early-Career Travel Grants

The association „Digital Humanities in the German-speaking Area e.V.“ (http://www.dig-hum.de) is offering eight travel grants of €500 each. Additionally, the consortium „NFDI4Culture“ (https://nfdi4culture.de/) is awarding seven, and the consortium „NFDI4Memory“ (https://4memory.de/) two more travel grants for participating in the DHd Annual Conference 2025 (DHd2025) of up to €500 each to Early Career Digital Humanists (Bachelor and Master students as well as graduates up to two years after their Master’s degree).

Applications are possible even without one’s own contribution at the conference. The travel grants are awarded to a maximum of €500 each. Eligible costs include 2nd class train travel, public transport trips, DHd membership fees, conference fees, accommodation up to max. €89/night, and costs for poster printing. Payment is made after the conference upon submission of receipts.

Conditions

Target Group

Eligible applicants are students of a humanities or cultural studies field, especially from the area of Digital Humanities, i.e., Bachelor and Master students as well as graduates up to two years after their Master’s degree, or doctoral candidates for the doctoral candidate grants. These Early-Career Travel Grants are aimed at supporting students and graduates with interests and research projects in the field of Digital Humanities and their integration into the DHd community.

Conference Accompanying Contribution

The grantees commit to reporting on their experiences during the conference or within four weeks after its end. Suitable formats include blog posts, day- or section-wise management of the conference Twitter/Mastodon accounts, photo or other multimedia documentations, and brief conference reports via other media channels. Further creative presentation and publication forms are explicitly welcomed and can be considered after consultation with the scholarship coordinator. The submission of the conference accompanying contributions must be done no later than four weeks after the conference, and the submission of accounting and receipts no later than eight weeks after the conference.

Sustainability and Economy

The DHd Association supports sustainability. We encourage making sustainable decisions in travel planning. It is expected that grantees – if the timing of the grant award allows – take advantage of Early-Bird conference rates. Membership in the DHd Association is not required for the application and disbursement of the grant. However, we would like to point out that members of the DHd Association benefit from a significant reduction in participation fees at conferences of the Digital Humanities professional associations DHd, EADH, and ADHO.

Selection Criteria

  1. Students without submission
  • Fit to the call for proposals
  • Expressed interest in Digital Humanities in general and DHd2025 in particular in the motivation letter
  • Proposal for media coverage (conference accompanying contribution) of the conference
  • Special fit to the funding goals of the grant-awarding organizations
  1. Early Career Scholars with their own contribution
  • Quality of the submission for the conference (review result)
  • Expressed interest in Digital Humanities in general and DHd2025 in particular in the motivation letter, and description of any commitment to Digital Humanities or the DHd Association
  • Proposal for media coverage (conference accompanying contribution) of the DHd2025 conference
  • Special fit to the funding goals of the grant-awarding organizations

The selection of the grantees will be made collectively by representatives of the DHd Board, the grant providers, representatives of the program committee, and representatives of the local organizers based on the applications. Preference is given to applicants who have not yet received a grant for one of the previous DHd conferences. Former grantees are ranked according to the number of grants already received and can only be considered if there are enough grants available. In case of equal suitability according to the criteria mentioned above, a draw will decide. Legal recourse is excluded.

Application

Applications can be submitted until 15.12.2024. Please fill out the application form in German or English and send a short tabular CV (max. 1 page). If you have your own conference contribution, please also include the submission text and the reviews of the accepted contribution with your application. Please also indicate if you have already received a travel grant for a previous DHd conference. You may be considered again, but preference is given to applicants who have not yet received a DHd grant.
